Months have passed and DI Owen Sheen is still feeling the reverberations of his first case in Belfast. So is DS Aoife McCusker: recuperating from her wounds but now on suspension and her adopted daughter taken into care. But Sheen is on a mission to restore her professional reputation as well as get to the truth of the boy found buried in Irish boglands. Both demand justice, though the case of the boy's body is as cold as the earth that has hidden it for so long. The investigation leads Sheen to re-examine a series of savage ritualistic murders dating back to the 1970s. And one thing is certain, between Northern Ireland's turbulent history and uncertain future, this will not be an easy case to crack.
